Manager faces HR backlash for unfairly "penalizing" a single mother, giving her a lower review and raise than her "flexible" male coworker, as he can work more after-hours and travel on short notice: 'They do equally good work, but he does more of it'

This argument is as nonlinear as it is complicated. Both sides show points that raise them, while simultaneously pulling them down. But we guess that's the key component to a good debate: Seeing both sides for the good and the bad. A management role is hardly smooth sailing, and oftentimes requires a lot of awkward conversations and demanding decisions…Management is not always there to be your bestie, but rather for the benefit of the company. So if you have a manager who cares for you deeply, it's best you show up for them and hold onto them tightly…because if you don't, they will pick favorites!

However, when those managers do choose, they should be sure to have valid reasons…Unless they want to end up like this manager, who's recently received a bucket of backlash from HR, accusing him of "unfairly" reviewing and providing raises to his team members… One, a hard-working single mom who completes her work precisely, but holds strict boundaries on flexibility…and the other, a man who's not so flexibility-specific, willing to work after-hours and weekends (unpaid) just for that extra CEO hallway-half-hearted smile.
